That's a really nice reflection. Your father is lucky to be so fondly remembered while he is around to read it.

What a lovely tribute to your dad on Father's Day. I love your description of his face after the Rice win.

Also, you lucky bastard. Being at ND for that season (your freshman year).

I loved this post. Kudos.

I'm the youngest of three girls...my father wanted a boy and I was his last chance at "penisdom" but that didn't happen. I was never the son he wanted but I was the daughter he could appreciate--namely because I shared his love for all things Longhorn.. specifically football. The first game I reemember wathcing with him was the Big Shootout against Arkansas--the one for all the marbles back in '69. I was ten then but that began the burnt orangizing of my blood. I eventually graduated from HS and began my collegiate matriculation at Texas. and while my father and I drifted apart...he dovorced my mother and all the drama that that implies, but the one thing we could always talk about was the Horns.

We were never closer than during the football season of 2005---The Vince Young Year.

He's old and so fragile now. Life has suddenly become difficult. Time will one day take him from me I know... but it can't rob me of the great football memories I have with him..the one thing we always had.

As long as there's a burnt orange sunset, I'll always have my father with me.

Best,
LK

What a very sweet post. Why do I picture your dad,(even though he right there in the upper left-hand corner), as the dad in Goldie Hawn's "Wildcats" with the fuzzy hat and the 50's glasses?

I also think your dad and my dad could sit around and talk old time radio plays for days. He collects old records from estate and radio auctions, (they used to send the broadcasts out on vinyl to local stations), and when I was young he'd transfer old reel to reels to cassette so we could listen to "The Shadow" in the car.

I've lived in LA for long enough now to have crossed paths with some crazy people, and the one he still talks about? The night I meet Stan Freeberg.
